The 104th anniversary of the “Balfour Declaration”

The 2nd of November marks the 104th anniversary of the “Balfour Declaration” by which the British government gave to the Jews promise for the establishing a “national home” on the Palestinian land, without having the right to do so. That was the largest political fraud in the world, committed by those who haven`t been empowered, for the benefit of those who didn’t deserve that.

The “Balfour Declaration” represents the letter sent by Arthur James Balfour, the British Foreign Secretary, dated November 2, 1917 to the Jewish Lord Lionel Walter de Rothschild, in which he confirmed the British government’s support for the establishment of a “national home for the Jewish people” in Palestine.

The Balfour Declaration represented official British political support for Zionism, and encouraged the immigration of Jews from all over the world to the Palestinian territories. It is worth noting that the number of Jews in Palestine during the announcement of “Balfour Declaration” that provided them Palestine as their national home, did not exceed 55 thousand (about 8% of the population). The Declaration ignored and canceled the rights of the Palestinian indigenous landowners, the majority that was rooted in the land, in favor of a minority that came from abroad by means of illegal immigration.

The Palestinians rejected the Declaration and resisted it, considering it the most heinous violation committed against them, as it caused their displacement and distribution to the countries of the diaspora and the entire world as refugees. The Palestinian people holds Britain in particular and other European countries and the United States of America responsible for ending their suffering, the chapters and tragedies of which the world is witnessing until today.

The Balfour Declaration constitutes the biggest historical injustice that is still pressing on our breasts and lands because of the oppressive Israeli occupation and its colonial practices on the Palestinian territories. It resulted in the displacement of Palestinians, who are scattering outside their homes in refugee camps and waiting for the international community to support them and to eliminate the historical injustice, giving them the right to return to their homes from which they were displaced in 1948, as stated in United Nations General Assembly Resolution No. 194.

On this occasion, the Palestinian people affirm their right to obtain an official apology from Britain for this ominous Declaration, demanding from it to recognize the State of Palestine on the borders of June 4, 1967 with East Jerusalem as its capital, as well as to assume its responsibilities towards the Palestinian people and support its just cause, taking into consideration that it is the main country responsible for their human tragedy and its ongoing repercussions. It is also demanded to provide all forms of political, financial and economic compensation to the Palestinian people.

(The number of Jews in Palestine in 1800 was about 5.000, and in 1876 their number was no more than 14.000, and in 1918 their number did not exceed 55.000 (about 8% of the population only). Thanks to the British support of the occupation and oppression in Palestine, the Jews succeeded in increasing their number up to 650.000 in 1948 (about 31,7% of the total population).
