On March 9, 2026, at the invitation of the Rector of Taras Shevchenko National University of Kyiv, Mr. Samir Abu-Kharoub, Head of the Administrative and Cultural Department of the Embassy of the State of Palestine in Ukraine, participated—on behalf of the Ambassador of the State of Palestine, Mr. Hashem Dajani—in a flower-laying ceremony marking the 212th anniversary of the birth of Taras Shevchenko, the outstanding national poet and symbol known around the world.
University staff and students, ambassadors and representatives of many diplomatic missions and organizations accredited in Ukraine, as well as admirers of Shevchenko’s poetry, gathered to honor the memory of this prominent Ukrainian figure.
On the same day, with the support of the university community, representatives of the diplomatic corps traveled to the city of Kaniv in the Cherkasy Oblast region, specifically to Chernecha Hill, the place where the poet was buried. During the event, songs were performed by the Folk Choir “Dnipro” and the folklore ensemble “Roksolania,” while verses from the poetry of Taras Shevchenko were also recited.
Members of the diplomatic corps also had the opportunity to visit the Taras Shevchenko National Reserve, where they explored an exhibition dedicated to the poet’s life, literary works, and artistic legacy.
