On January 16, 2022, the General Union of Palestinian Students and Fatah branch in Ukraine commemorated in the city of Kyiv the 57th anniversary of the start of the glorious Palestinian revolution and founding the “Fatah” movement. The torch was lit in the presence of His Excellency the Ambassador of the State of Palestine Hashem Dajani, the Embassy staff, the Secretary of the Fatah branch in Ukraine Dr. Mahmoud Nassar, the Head of the Palestinian community in Kyiv Dr. Yahya Al-Sheikh and the President of the General Union of Palestinian Students Dr. Muhammad Sweiti, in addition to representatives of the fraternal Arab communities residing in Ukraine. The ceremony began with a minute of mourning and the reading of the surah Al-Fatiha for the souls of the martyrs, followed by the playing of the Palestinian and Ukrainian national anthems.
In his speech on this important occasion, Ambassador Dajani conveyed to the attendees the greetings of our Palestinian people and leadership, headed by His Excellency Mahmoud Abbas (Abu Mazen), President of the State of Palestine, Chairman of the Executive Committee of the Palestine Liberation Organization, and the sole legitimate representative of the Palestinian people.
He added, that “the 1st of January, 1965 is considered a glorious day in the history of our contemporary Palestinian revolution, and it marked a new dawn and a historical stage during which our Palestinian people regained the initiative and held onto their independent national decision, announcing on this day the launch of the Palestinian National Liberation Movement “Fatah”, the pioneer of the Palestinian struggle against the brutal Israeli occupation of the land of Palestine, following the heroic Eilaboun Tunnel operation. On this day, our people, in all their places of residence, renew their pledge and oath to the initiator of our contemporary revolution, the martyr, the late symbol Yasser Arafat, declaring their continuous determination to keep the flame of struggle and revolution burning, incandescent and continuing until all the legitimate rights of our people are achieved”. Ambassador Dajani also called on the representatives of our Palestinian people and members of our community to unite and rally around the national rights and constants and our national project led by the Palestine Liberation Organization and its legitimate national leadership that adheres to the independent national decision. He expressed honor and reverence to our noble and righteous martyrs, the most honorable of all of us, who gave their lives in sacrifice for Palestine and in defense of the rights of our people, to our brave prisoners in the prisons of Israeli oppression and injustice, to our wounded and their families, as well as to all the fighters and our heroic people in the Homeland and the diaspora. Ambassador Dajani also paid a tribute to the protector of our Palestinian national project, President Mahmoud Abbas, and to the Palestinian leadership.
Ambassador Dajani extended his respect and appreciation to the Arab and Muslim brothers and the free people of the world who supported our people and our just cause. He saluted the sons of our Palestinian community in Ukraine, stressing the importance of their role in supporting the struggle and steadfastness of our people, valuing the efforts they make in order to deliver the message of our people to the friendly Ukrainian people and to strengthen relations of cooperation and friendship between the two countries, thanking them for the solidarity among them, which he experienced and touched during the Corona pandemic crisis. He directed special gratitude to all of them who contributed to lifting the affliction and providing assistance to each of our Palestinian and Arab brothers in need, and wished God to bestow upon them goodness and blessings so that love, solidarity and loyalty would remain among their good traits.
On his part, Dr. Mahmoud Nassar, Secretary of the Fatah branch in Ukraine, delivered a speech, in which he saluted the steadfastness of our people everywhere, and spoke about the Fatah movement at the leadership level reviving national unity, the meeting with the organization’s factions in Syria and the efforts of the Fatah movement to return Syria to the Arab bosom, as well as the visit of a delegation from the Central Committee led by Brother Azzam Al-Ahmad to Algeria in order to start achieving national unity. He also paid tribute to the martyrs of the revolution and the martyrs of Fatah that provided them in the first row (members of the Central Committee). He also saluted our brave families and stressed that the celebration of the anniversary of the start of the glorious Palestinian revolution on the national and international levels is the greatest evidence of Fatah’s ability to lead the revolution and protect the independent Palestinian national decision.
